Download Safety and File Verification
Fake GB WhatsApp files are everywhere. This page explains how we check every APK before we list it, and how you can check any file yourself in a few minutes.
Key Points
- GB WhatsApp only exists as an Android APK. Any .exe, iPhone, or “PC version” file is fake.
- We scan every file on VirusTotal and test it on a real phone before we list it.
- You can confirm a file with its SHA256 fingerprint and a free VirusTotal scan.
- If a file fails our checks later, we remove it and say so.

Why File Safety Matters
Popular mods attract criminals. They repack real apps with hidden spyware and spread them through lookalike sites and Telegram channels. This is not a theory:
- In 2023, Kaspersky found a spy module called CanesSpy inside a WhatsApp mod and counted over 340,000 attacks in one month.
- In 2021, Kaspersky found the Triada trojan inside FMWhatsApp 16.80, hidden in an ad library.
So the mod name tells you nothing. The source and the file tell you everything. Our safety guide covers the full story.
How We Check Every File
- Get it from the source. We take each build from the developer’s official release channel, never from mirror sites.
- Record its details. We note the version, file size, package name, and SHA256 hash.
- Scan it on VirusTotal. We read every engine’s result, not just the total.
- Review permissions. We reject files that ask for Accessibility Service, Device Admin, or SMS access.
- Install and test. We install it on an Android test phone with a secondary number and check that it opens, logs in, and backs up.
- Publish it unchanged. No installers, no bundled apps, and no renamed files.
Failed files never go live. If a listed file fails a later check, we remove it and add a note to the page.
What File Types to Expect
| Platform | Real File | Fake Files to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Android | One .apk file, about 133 MB for v26.97 | .zip with a password, .xapk bundles from unknown sites, “installer” apps |
| iPhone | None. GB WhatsApp has never existed for iOS | Any .ipa, profile, or “iOS version” offer |
| Windows and Mac | The same Android .apk, run inside an emulator | .exe, .msi, .dmg, or .pkg files |
How to Check a File With SHA256
A SHA256 hash is a file’s fingerprint. If even one byte changes, the fingerprint changes completely. So when a download box lists a SHA256 hash, a match proves you have the exact same file.
| Device | How to Get the Hash |
|---|---|
| Windows | Open Command Prompt and run: certutil -hashfile filename.apk SHA256 |
| Mac | Open Terminal and run: shasum -a 256 filename.apk |
| Linux | Run: sha256sum filename.apk |
| Android | Use a trusted hash checker app from Google Play |
Compare every character. If anything differs, delete the file and download it again from the original source.
How to Check a File With VirusTotal
- Go to virustotal.com, a free scanning service owned by Google.
- Upload the APK, or paste its SHA256 hash to see an existing report.
- Read both the number of detections and the names of the threats.
Warnings You May See
| Warning | What It Means | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Riskware, PUA, or Generic | A common label for modified apps | Normal for mods. Trust only verified sources |
| Trojan, Spyware, Stealer, or Backdoor | Real malware signs | Do not install. Delete the file |
| Google Play Protect warning | Google flags apps from unknown developers | Check the hash and scan first, then decide |
| “App not installed” | A version or signature conflict | Back up, uninstall the old build, then try again |
| Android unverified developer prompt | New 2026 Android developer verification rules | Use only Google’s own advanced install setting, never a helper app |
A simple rule: one or two generic flags are normal for mods. Named trojans or spyware flags from several engines are not.
Red Flags of Fake GB WhatsApp Sites
- They offer an iPhone, .exe, or “official PC” version

- They ask you to install another app or browser extension first
- They promise “100% ban proof” or “no ban ever”
- They ask for your WhatsApp number or verification code
- They ask you to turn off Play Protect or your antivirus
- The file size is far from the real build
If Something Goes Wrong
- Turn off mobile data and Wi Fi, then uninstall the suspicious app.
- Run a full scan with a trusted mobile security app.
- From a clean device, change your important passwords and log out of other sessions.
- Turn on two step verification in WhatsApp.
- Report the fake file or site to us at antiban.whatzapp@gmail.com with the subject “Report a fake site”.
